REFERRALS, FEES & REBATES
Referrals, Fees & Rebates
You do not need a referral to see us. However, a Mental Health Care Plan or a Primary Enhanced Care Plan, for yourself, or your child/adolescent, from your GP or Paediatrician will allow you to claim a rebate. Please check the Medicare website for up-to-date information. Please bring your referral and Plan with you to your initial appointment to receive a rebate.
The full fee is payable on the day, and we have on-site Medicare claiming facilities for your convenience. Your rebate, once processed by Medicare, will appear in your nominated bank account usually the next day – sometimes the same day. The cost of your consultations counts towards the Medicare Safety Net Thresholds. Rebates are around 80% of your out-of-pocket expenses when you reach the threshold in a calendar year.
We are registered with all major private health insurance providers. Claims can be made instantly using HICAPS on site. Speak to your health insurance provider regarding the rebate that you are eligible. Note that private health insurance rebates can only be claimed where Medicare rebates are not claimed.
If you are self-managed under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), you can make an appointment and pay privately using your funding. If you are not self-managed, you can make an appointment and we organise payment.
The Australian Psychological Society recommended fee for psychologists is $267 for 46 to 60 minutes individual consultations until 30 June 2022 (July 2021-June 2022). Our standard appointment fees at Dickson Psychology are well below than the recommended fee schedule by the Australian Psychological Society. Please contact Reception (02 6100 7383) for information as to what fees may apply to you as consultation fees depend on the length and type of the session.
Therapy appointments are scheduled for 50-60 minutes. Separate appointments are generally made for review and feedback sessions or when parent support is required to allow time to speak freely without their child / adolescent present.
Appointments for diagnostic assessments vary but are generally 90 minutes, and can be over several sessions. Cost of assessments varies according to complexity of assessment – to be discussed at time of booking and/or at the initial session.
Requests for additional reports, letters to funding agencies, non-standard letters to medical practitioners will incur a fee (hourly rate applies).
We are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency's (AHPRA) Psychology Board of Australia, and hold membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS). We are also registered with Medicare, WorkCover, National Disability Insurance Agency, and major private health funds.
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please advise our reception staff as soon as possible so that we are able to offer the time to another client. Less than 24 hours of cancellation notice or no attendance will incur a scheduled appointment fee.
